In the beginning, there was fisherman and striper
As an introduction, this blog beginning November 1, 2013 is to document my learning and experiences fishing Lake Anna in Virginia. The lake is a reservoir that serves as cooling water for a Dominium Power nuclear electric generating plant. The lake is separated into two areas: the public side and the private side. Cooling water is drawn from the public side, and exhausts down the private side and circulates back through the public side. The two areas are separate and distinct for boating/fishing use. Lake Anna is 17 miles long and has 200 miles of shoreline. Our property at 11141 Piney Forest Drive, Bumpass, VA 23024 and is in Spotsylvania County and the dock is on the public side of the lake.
Already did Tim's Restaurant and it is Goooood! Mel had a fish sandwich and I had a soft shell crab sandwich and Blue Moon - Yummy! It may be possible to reach by water while doing a day fishing?
I ordered the GMCO Pro Map for Lake Anna to get me started. I also tried to find a proboard like http://www.kerrlake.proboards.com/ but none exists. Oh, finally found one "Hooked on Lake Anna".
Charter captain sites are the norm for providing Lake Anna Guided Striper Fishingstriper . Of course, I do intend to do a charter to get a quick study of the lake Maybe with McCotter as the name reminds me of someone. Not sure how I'll handle the boats. Mel wants her 20' deck boat docked at the deeded slip that comes with the property. Not sure how I'll handle my boat parking. The association does not allow a boat barn to be built on the property, though it certainly needs a storage building to house all my personal stuff. Well, all the stuff will stay at the Scottsburg, VA residence.
The Scottsburg, VA residence close to John Kerr reservoir provides a venue for striper fishing too. John Kerr reservoir, sometimes called Buggs Island is 45 miles long and has more than 800 miles of shoreline. The water flow comes partially from Smith Mountain Lake, through Kerr, then Lake Gaston, then Roanoake Rapids, via the Roanoake or Staunton river. Most lakes/rivers in Southern VA seem to have two names. The second river feeding Kerr is the Dan and both join just below Staunton River State Park.
I love Virginia for fishing as the inland water, Chesapeake Bay and offshore opportunities are endless for a dedicated fisherman.
Joy Fishes Kiptopeke for Cow Stripers is a long standing description of my experiences and adventures in the Chesapeake Bay during many December seasons. It also shows the Sea Pro that I use for most all of my fishing on the bay or inland lakes.
And so it goes for now!
